The vampires in Dunwich are a strange sort. This one looks strange, that one seems to have no mind, and this one can walk in the daytime. It's almost as if this one isn't the same breed as that one.
They're not.
There are some basic facts about all vampires in Dunwich. The general folklore you've heard about vampires does have some basis in reality here.
- All vampires drink blood to survive. They cannot do without it.
- All vampires are immune to human diseases, however they can pass those diseases onto their victims. Most notably the recent Angel Fever going around.
- All vampires can fly.
- All vampires must be invited to a building by the proper owner of the building. A guest in your house cannot invite a vampire in. However, once invited, there is no way to revoke that invitation. Be careful who you invite into your home.
TYPES OF VAMPIRES
TYPE ONE; The rarest of vampires. These are actually considered lesser demons, the last remnants of magical beings who predated creation. They live for thousands of years, sometimes hibernated for hundreds at a time. Although they look humanish, their deformations are extreme. They are extremely emaciated, have thick, inch-long teeth that hinder them from being able to close their mouths. They can have an incredible amount of tumors on their bodies, a ton of body hair, or other physical defects.
Their bodies adapted a long time ago for hunting blood. They can smell blood from a long distance. Their teeth pierce skin easier. Their stomachs expand to hold as much as half their body weight in blood. Their tongue is long, prehensile, and can produce anticoagulants to apply to the victim's bites. Those of you with telepathy or aural sight can see that they have a blue or indigo aura.
Type Ones are extremely vulnerable to faith. Those with intense religious belief wielding a cross can drive them away or cause them to burst into flames. When their aura — their life energy — goes out, they will immediately putrefy into stinky yellow puddles. Ick.
Thankfully, Dunwich doesn't have any of these. (Or does it?)
TYPE TWO; These former humans were bitten by a Type One vampire, then that vampire mixed their blood. These poor people have no free will and almost none of their previous intelligence. They have an unquenchable thirst for blood, which is all they do when they don't have any bidding for their Type One master.
They are extremely allergic to ultraviolet light, which means they only come out at night. They have the same aura as Type Ones, albeit a little less intense. They are susceptible to faith or faith based objects if the user believes, but it will only drive them away. They will need to be killed via other means. Beheading and setting them on fire is the best way. And yeah, they make a stinky puddle too.
TYPE THREE; Humans who manage to make it away from a Type Two's bloodlust might find themselves with a need for blood. These vampires can pass as normal humans. They are able to move in sunlight, eat normal food (though they do need blood from time to time), and have very nearly their normal intelligence and personality. Their bite contains an enzyme that causes temporary memory loss and disorientation, giving them the luxury of not having to fight their victims.
Type Threes cannot pass on vampirism to those they bite. Their aura is very faint compared to the other two, and they are not nearly as strong. They are not susceptible to anything faith based, and can be killed with normal weapons in normal ways. However, when they die, their bodies dissolve away. Except their teeth and hair.
